Okay, so I'm just processing this and here are the things I'm kicking around.
ReplyDeleteI think of the song: Wonderful Cross - "Did ever such joy and sorrow meet?"
I heard the sorrow, but when Paul got to what this means about God's love toward us, I didn't hear the joy... at first that troubled me, but then I got to thinking. He was preaching out of a burden for people who don't know or don't accept God as He is. So his tone reflected his heart toward those people, and so he didn't find joy in God's amazing love because his heart was set on those who do not know it.
Otherwise, I thought it was a powerful reminder of the kindness and severity of our God (Romans 11:22).
