Hey Bullwhip Guy

Hey hope everyone had a great Memorial Day Weekend. So here is the icing on the cake. The Bullwhip Guy! Wow! Makes sense though...think about it! When you do think about it...let me know what you think. For kicks go back and watch all three video posts of Rob Bell's Bullhorn Guy, Todd Friel's Bullhorn Guy response 1&2 and finally Bullwhip Guy! Have fun with this one!

  1. I watched this one thinking it was the full version of Bullhorn guy earlier in the discussion. This guy does not have the presentation/acting skills of Rob Bell. But he does have a good point. The more you learn the details of what Jesus was doing in the temple, it makes sense, both Inductively and deductively.

  2. To quote the great Dr. Cliff Sanders, "Is this making sense to ya?" I agree with you Kirby that this guy doing a parody of Rob Bell is not his best talent. However, the truth that has been conveyed in the last two video posts just makes a whole lot of sense to me! That you can confront people and bring up issues of God, what do you think happens to you if you die, and obviously sin, hell and judgement, grace, Jesus, Love, Good News, and it can make more sense than just "watch my life and maybe my Jesus will rub off on you," or "You need Jesus because he can give you a better life...or as Joel Osteen puts it You can live your best life now!" This video showed me that Jesus was not afraid to bust into a scene with the truth and a handful of WHIP! I don't have a whip (yet) but I do have the truth and I have the Holy Spirit who allows me to have the courage to say what needs to be said to people that need to hear it! So have any of you guys ever heard of using the ten commandments in this way? Has these three video postings been benficial to your witnessing opportunities? Just curious and a little bored...when I should be busy!

  3. After watching Rob Bell, Tod Friel, and the guy titled ¨Bullwhip Guy¨, I am able to say that one of the videos stands out far more than the others.

Upon watching this video, Bullwhip Guy, I sincerly hope that this man was joking and trying to expose how pathetic Rob Bells message is, because if he was not he has just become one of the worlds biggest heretics. It was as if he took the most important Biblical texts and gave the complete opposite interpretaion of what they mean. That being said, his message sounds much like what the majority of the ¨successful¨ folks are preaching today.

I very much agree with the message of Todd Friel, I think his method, the Biblical one, of expounding the Gospel is correct.

While it is true that one must confront and react to every situation differntly in regards to sharing the gospel, more often than not, it leans one way. What I mean by that is that when we confront a person who the Spirit has already allowed to see their sin, we need not speak so much about sin and judgement and hell, because the Lord has already allowed that person to see the wretchness of their sin and need for salvation, we must simply tell them of the Way of Salvation. However for the person who has not had any brokenness of sin, and would be what we call a self-righteouss person, completely blind to their sin and seeing themselve as without need for salvation, the approach of Jesus and the Apostles would be correct.

I believe that using the 10 commandments is a wonderful way to share the gospel Biblically with someone, it follows the model of Mark 10 and the rich young ruler. Men such as Todd Friel, Ray Comfort, and Paul Washer, I feel are all good examples of how one ought to evangelize, and they simply found their model of evangelism by looking at the model given us by Jesus and the Apostles. Ray Comfort, who is a very good open air preacher, as well as brother Paul, use words such as sin, hell, condemnation, judgement, repentance, but they use those words to paint the picture about how wretched man is and how great his need of salvation is, so that then they are able to use words such as love, mercy, Cross, salvation, Jesus, eternal life, etc.

Open Air preaching has a very solid Biblical base, it is grounded in Scripture. Apart from men in Scripture, men such as George Whitefield (who we could all learn a lot from), Charles Spurgeon, Hudson Taylor, nowadays, Ray Comfort, Paul Washer, and many many othres, were are or great open air preachers.

It is important to have balance, as in everything. The great Puritan preachers, John Bunyan and Richard Baxter, tended to preach much about hell and judgement, also did Jonathan Edwards, while they were not at all wrong in doing so, we would do well to remember that those things having their definate place, we must also have balance and in the right time bring Gods love and mercy.

One last comment. I must say that it was great to hear and even brought out an Amen hearing Todd Friel mention the imputation of Christ´ Righteousness in his presentation of the gospel. That is certainly something we do not hear much of today, especially in evangelism. It is also something that we are completly lost without.

May God guide us as we speak about these things concerning Him and may we have grace and mercy towards one another.

  5. So I guess being sarcastic and trying to make fun of people is now "loving your neighbor as yourself".

The could have just said, I don't agree with you Rob Bell. I'll add a comment later as one take on evangelism. One thing I've noticed is that the church is pretty crappy about teaching it. How do we expect others to reach others if we don't equip them? More later...

  6. I think what the bullwhip guy was going for was not to make fun of Rob Bell...but to demonstrate Rob Bell's monologue about the Bullhorn Guy and see how that conversation would look and feel if it was about Jesus? Would the same poeple who would like the Bullhorn Guy to stop and put down the bullhorn, say the same thing to Jesus?

  7. However, the main thing is by viewing these videos wheather we agree with them or not...has it caused us to think about sharing our faith? Has it caused us to be a bolder in evangelism and just start the conversation with someone even though we don't even know them? If anything I have posted on this blog makes one think...and then act upon that thinking...then mission accomplished!

  8. First of all, are you ever going to call me? I'm about to post my cell number just so you will contact me.

Just remember, not everyone is not where you are in your walk. That includes me (and I'm just guessing) many others. You might expect me to walk out on the street and just share my faith, which I would call dangerous right now, because I don't want to say something, and totally be wrong about it.

Let me ask you this. Let's say someone in your church became a Christian a week ago. What are your expectations of that person? Do you expect them to run to the streets with the message that Jesus is here to save others?

Again... is any evangelism better than none at all?

Please Please call me, or contact Kirby. We are going to try and put together a men's retreat, and we want to hold it in Decatur, and have Mark and you both attend. We would start on a Friday night, go all day Saturday, finish up Sunday morning, and then attend church together at People's. Call me!

    Again,... more later.

  9. Honestly, the only thing it's done for me is make me wonder why we all can't just get along! But seriously, I'm beginning to think that yes, it feels like we have lost something along the way, like the truth of matters has been lost. And honestly I've been trying to battle out this area of evangelism long before you asked any of us about it. I'm also trying not to sound so prudent about matters. You must understand that I am a very passionate person, so I tend to over-react. Again, I'm sorry if I do offend anyone.

I won't say you will find me on the streets doing evangelism, but I'm sure of this, God will find a way for me to fit in somewhere, I'm just waiting on him to tell me where to go. It's hard having patience when you are actually ready to go.

One of those areas, (and I don't know that you could call this evangelism)... is in men's ministry, and specifically dealing with pornography. So many guys are haunted by the fact that they are trapped by it, and yet it seems like we won't even touch that subject in church. Quite honestly, where else do we expect these guys to deal with it? I think our churches are missing the mark in alot of ways. Evangelism is one of those. With so many things being ready and available to guys today, and so easy to find the negative. (Internet is a killer... I tell ya)

There are so many battles now, on so many fronts, it's hard to know which way to turn to fight.

Just know I will go to battle with you!!!

  10. I hear ya loud a clear Butch. I also believe that pornography is one of those elephants in the sanctuary! I believe that most churches are not ready to tackle the issue and Sunday morning Worship Services are full of men being torn apart one website at a time! Have you heard of www.xxxchurch.com It is a pretty good site that is very upfront and to the point. THey have a weekly podcast called "Dirty Little Secrets," check it out if you have not already. Also I have read Every Man's Battle which is an amazing read! Glad to hear someone else passionate about integrity and purity!

  11. Yes sir. Gave it all up about and finally laid it all down about a month and a half ago. That was the whole deal I laid out about Romans 7.
You have no idea how awake I feel. The only thing now is, the real battle has begun! Thank God I have people like Ryan and Kirby (both from Westlake) to be in this battle with me.

  12. We are doing a 40-day fast and reading a book called "A call to die" by David Nasser for our small group. They had a great section in the book titled, "Love One Another". It makes the statement: "He (Jesus) didn't start the conversation by showing them Bible verses. Jesus made sure he got to know them first, then he explained the love of God to them. He spent time loving...". It goes on in the next section: "But since we have received so much love and kindness...we can share that wealth with those we rub shoulders with every day. If we have truely experienced the love of Christ, that will overflow tot the point that we are compelled to share this love with the lonely, hurting, dirty, and empty."
Sometimes I feel I can't even talk to other christians for fear of their "bullwhip". Why do we kill each other with theology and philosophy and try to prove who can use bigger words or seem better off in their "ministry"? You are waisting my time. Stop pushing me out from behind my Rabbi. I want to be covered in the dust so much that I am covered in MUD!! There is room for everyone!
Too many times people take scripture out of context and make it fit THEIR needs and forget to go after the real enemy....SATAN. Let other christians witness in they way they are called by the spirit and use their spiritual gifts and let them lead the way in which God has called them.
If you were in the military would you take out the person protecting your weak side, out of fear that he has a gun too and may "accidentially, one day, sometime, could possibly point it in your direction"? No, you would do anything you could to encourage him and support him in his time of need. And then recrute!!! and not stop...

  13. Hey Kirby, I have heard of David Nasser...always heard good stuff come from him...but never read anything myself. I think you have some great thoughts and sound very passionate. And I have said before that there are many people witnessing many different ways from invitational evangelism, relational evangelism, and stranger evangelism where you don't have to have a relationship! My push is for people to actually be sharing their faith and spreading the good news...period! I use "The Way of The Master" method mostly, however, I have some friends that I am praying about what needs to be said. I use the Law (the Ten Commandments) when someone does not see their need for Jesus and I use relationship when the person is in need of grace as they are already humbled. I use invitational evangelism at wal-mart when there are a bunch of angry people waiting behind me or if I am at the bank or something, I use blog evangelism for those who I may never see but will grow closer to Jesus by something I post! So I agree there is room for everyone...even the bullhorn guy!
